Division Lapbook

We will be starting division this week.  I had so much fun (and the kids, too) putting together all of our foldables for multiplication, that I knew I had to create a division lapbook.  Here's a peek:

My students had a great time learning the concepts of multiplication in this format, that I knew I needed to "do it again".  Their tests, by the way, were awesome!  I'm really beginning to {finally} get a handle on this whole Common Core stuff.  I'm having to think differently.  My students are having to think differently.  And I love it.  {Did I just say I love Common Core?}

If you are interested, they are in my TPT store.  Click {here} or on the pictures above to go there.

However, I'm going to have a giveaway within my other giveaway if that is OK with you.  I'm going to give away 5 copies to those that comment below telling me what you think about Common Core.  Be honest.  Is there some advice you can give to others reading?  Is there something you'd like for me to try to create?
Do you have questions?  I will choose 5 people using the random generator thingy-ma-bob on Wednesday night at 8:00 EST.

Yes, I said a giveaway within a giveaway.  If you missed this giveaway I'm having right now...click {here} or on the picture below.

OK, off to the grocery store for my hubby.  He's cooking chicken noodle soup for dinner and needs noodles.  Ummm, yep.  Important.

Have a great week.

  1. Thoughts about the Common Core? Well, that's a loaded question! We also have the Iowa Core to guide us, so keeping the two straight is very confusing for me! I'm just hoping that someone will cut to the chase and just tell me what I need to teach. I think that would just take away some of the stress. Luckily, I don't teach math, so I just have literacy to sort through!

  2. We haven't gone common core yet, but I sort of wish we would. I teach at a private school, so we cobbled together some standards that do not really fit what we teach OR what is important. So, I secretly stalk CC resources to see what is truly important in second grade.

  3. I think Common Core is a great idea - once we all get used to it! Most of the 3rd grade curriculum seems to be very similar to what it used to be for NC, but it digs deeper. That is what we're not used to, so it's taking some time to get into it!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas! We are getting ready to start multiplication this week, so I'm headed to your TPT site to grab the Multiplication Lapbook as we speak! :)

  4. I think the common core will really help focus things.
My district half adopted the math standards this year and next year is full on ccss.
    Thanks

  5. We are not quite cc yet, and it sorta scares me. But I think it is a good idea, if it can be pulled off in a creative way.

  7. I have lots of questions about the Common Core and how it will affect my students. I think it does make sense to narrow down the learning objectives in order to make them more manageable. It seems as though sometimes we are trying to cram in too many concepts in one year.

I love the division lap book though and would love to use it with my students (if I win)!!

  8. I'm loving Common Core but not loving spending so much time creating and looking for units/mini lessons/materials! Thank goodness for TPT :) I'd love to win your division lap book!

  9. I like the Common Core so far. I think it is exciting for all teachers in the same grade all across the US to finally be on the same page (once it is fully implemented in the adopting states). I have also found that the CC is giving teachers a common language to "speak."

  11. I like the ideas of the Common Core but still am very skeptical about how it will all come together. How many years will it take for my students to really come to 4th grade knowing what "they are supposed to already know"? With any changes, I am trying my best to meet the challenges set before me!!

This is our first year 'officially' with Common Core. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and not sure where to begin. We will have a new reading series next year and math series the following year, all aligning with the CC. I think once we dissect the standards and have them implemented for a couple of years, we will begin to see a difference in our students.

Initially, I was not for Common Core, I couldn't get my mind around it and why we had to do it in this specific way. However, after spending time really breaking it down I see it in a whole new light. I think it really had more to do me than it did with the Common Core. As students, we were not taught concepts the way Common Core is having us break it down. I basically felt like I had to relearn everything before I can teach it to my students. I believe the conceptual understanding the Common Core stress will prove beneficial to our students in the long run. It is just frustrating that New York doesn't provide us any real example of how and what it should look like. It is really through blogs like yours and TPT that I have any clue as to how to do anything Common Core related. So I want to say thanks a million!

  14. I don't much yet-here in California,we haven't had much training yet. I like the idea of kids having to show how they know it-requires more thinking! I think we've taken so much of the thinking out of learning with too many multiple choice options. I am looking forward to learning more and implementing it in my classroom. :_)

  15. I like the common core. It's nice to know we are all working toward the same goals and having our students build a deeper understanding of many of the concepts.

  16. I think the whole common core thing is great. I am just struggling to balance common core with the standards that must be taught for our end of year testing. As of right now, they don't completely line up. Maybe some day soon!

  19. Hi Elizabeth! These lapbooks look awesome! I have your multiplication lapbook and plan on using in the next couple of weeks. We have had several inservices on the Common Core. I think it's great! I have been working hard to make sure my lessons are aligned to the Core, and have been trying to keep track of the Core concepts I have taught.

    Have a great week!
