After eight long years away from blogging, I’m finally back—and it feels like coming home. I lost the urge to write and share teaching tidbits when I left the classroom. Teaching had always been my inspiration, and when that chapter of my career closed, my voice went with it. But now, after stepping into the role of an instructional coach and reconnecting with educators doing incredible work daily, I’m ready to write again.
Why Now?
Teaching has always been challenging, but educators are under more pressure today than ever. I see firsthand how tirelessly teachers work to meet their students' needs, manage shifting educational demands, and maintain their well-being. Being an instructional coach allows me to support teachers meaningfully, and I want this blog to extend that support beyond my immediate circle.
Why Blogging Instead of Social Media?
Unlike social media, where content is fast and fleeting, blogging offers depth, reflection, and connection. Social media platforms are excellent for quick exchanges and keeping up to date. However, they sometimes lack the space to hold meaningful conversations and thoughtfully explore complex ideas.
For me, blogging provides:
A Permanent Home for Ideas: Social media posts quickly get buried under the constant flood of new content. A blog is a searchable archive where valuable insights can live on and remain accessible over time.
Room for Thoughtful Reflection: Blogs allow writers to dive deep, explore topics thoroughly, and share nuanced perspectives.
Connection Through Storytelling: Stories can resonate and build lasting connections. Blogging invites readers into a writer's world in a way that a short tweet or post simply can't.
Focus Without the Noise: Social media can be chaotic and distracting. Blogging offers a quiet corner where writers and readers can engage thoughtfully.
Returning to blogging is a way for me to reclaim that thoughtful space. It’s a chance to share ideas that teachers can return to again and again when they need guidance or inspiration.
What to Expect
As I dive back into blogging, I want this space to be a resource filled with practical ideas, strategies, and encouragement for teachers. Some things I plan to cover include:
Time-Saving Strategies: How to streamline lesson planning and delivery.
Instructional Tips: Effective and engaging teaching techniques for the modern classroom.
Teacher Wellness: Strategies for setting boundaries and finding joy in teaching.
Coaching Insights: Reflections on supporting teachers and fostering professional growth.
Lessons From the Past
Looking back, I realize that stepping away from blogging wasn’t a loss but a necessary pause. I needed time to transition, reflect, and rediscover my purpose. If you're reading this and feeling disconnected from your creative or professional voice, I encourage you to honor that space. Trust that when you’re ready, your voice will come back stronger and more purposeful than before. Years ago, I had a teaching partner who helped me find value in allowing us to take this time for ourselves. At the time, I was heavy in the thick of blogging, and she felt guilty that I was doing most of our planning. I told her that I was in the season of my life where it worked for me to do that, and it didn’t for her. Years later, it was my time to take the backseat and allow others to drive. Now, I’m ready to retake the wheel.
Let's Start This Journey Together
To all the teachers out there, thank you for the incredible work you do every day. My goal with this blog is simple—to make your life easier and more fulfilling in any way I can. I’m excited to share insights, learn from you, and create a community where we uplift one another.
