Are you ready for some...
BRIGHT IDEAS?
My classroom is T.I.N.Y. I'm not sure why I made those capital letters except to emphasize that my room is teeny-tiny. If I really wanted to emphasize how tiny the room is, then I probably should have said that my classroom is tiny. That's tiny.
It's also shaped like a triangle. Seriously. What architect came up with that brilliant idea? That's certainly not a "Bright Idea". Do you realize what that does? It cuts down on my wall space. Yes, instead of 4 great walls for hanging all of our favorite anchor charts, I'm limited to 3 walls. And of those three walls, one of them is taken by cabinets and cubbies.
This leads me to my co-worker's BRIGHT IDEA. It's really rather simple and a tip that I know I would still use if my room were HUGE.
Just cut a poster in 1/2.
Told you it was simple, yet brilliant! I've also had this calendar hanging in that spot for two years. So, it will last.
Short and simple tip, but it works for us! I hope you found it helpful!

BRIGHT IDEAS!
BRIGHT IDEAS!
Oh I love this! I know you told me already, but seeing it in action is just awesome!! I would do this in a heartbeat, but unfortunately I don't have any cabinets. I can't complain though because at least my room is rectangular...I had no idea yours was triangular!!!! Crazy!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Elizabeth, I will definitely file this away for future use!! :)
Thanks, Kristen!
DeleteI am moving to a new school/class and I fear I will have limited space so I am very thankful for this tip, thanks Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, a triangle, who does that : )
I know, right? It's crazy! Three schools in my district were made this way back in the 80s and we laugh about it all of the time. I think the idea behind it was to have a huge "pod" area in the middle and two rooms shared the space (hince the triangle room) on each of the four corners. Weird.
DeleteElizabeth! A triangle?! That is crazy!! What a great idea though to make use of your cabinet space! I hang stuff on my cabinets too, but for the most part they are big enough to fit things without cutting them. I will definitely keep this idea in mind though!

DeleteHow did this never occur to me?! Thanks for sharing - I have a small room but never thought to cut the poster to make it fit on my cabinet doors! Awesome :)
ReplyDeleteGreat yet simple idea! Way better than a triangular shaped classroom :)
